Nica Shop

What is Nica Shop?
Nica Shop was set up to support projects in Nicaragua. Whenever you order books, CDs, electronics, or other goods via Nica Shop, part of your purchase price goes to these projects.

What projects?
The Walking Unidos clinic in Leon, Nicaragua provides prosthetic limbs to Nicaraguans who have lost an arm or a leg because of accident, disease, or land mines left over from the war. Most of the clients of the clinic are poor and receive services at no cost.

The Apanas Project  publishes drawings, essays, and poems created by residents of the community of Apanas. Apanas is a small fishing community located in the Department of Jinotega, Nicaragua.  The writing and art work describe aspects of life in the community.

Why Nicaragua?
I spent two years in Nicaragua as a Peace Corps Volunteer, 1968 to 1970 working most of that time with the fishing cooperative in Apanas. Thirty years later, in 2000, I had a chance to go back, with Walking Unidos, reawakening an interest in that part of the world.

How do I order through Nica Shop?
Nica Shop simply passes you through to Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Order just like you usually do. You get the same selection, service, and discounts. There is no additional cost to you. Amazon and B&N remember that you came from Nica Shop and credit Nica Shop for all your purchases during that session. It's important that everytime you go to Amazon or B&N you go through Nica Shop so that we get credits.
Click to go directly to Amazon:
Or Click here to enter ASIN/ISBN for Amazon. This is not necessary, but in some cases will generate a higher commission to NicaShop - never at any additional cost to you. (If you Automate Amazon - next section - there is no need to do this.)
Click here to go to Barnes and Noble:

How much will be provided to The Apanas Project and Walking Unidos?
The projects will receive 100% of shopping revenues generated by this site and other TransAtlantic Software web sites (http://www.transatlan.com/). We earn up to 15% of the sale price on individually linked books and about 5% on anything else including CDs, videos, DVDs, toys, and consumer electronics. Periodic reports showing traffic and revenue will be posted on this web site.

Changes and plans.
I'll be adding lists of directly linked books, because Amazon pays a higher commission for direct links. Possible sections include books on Nicaragua and best sellers. Please let me know if you have ideas for other sections. I'll also incorporate feedback provided by the rapidly expanding group of Nica Shop users. A more ambitious possibility is to set up an electronic store to sell Nicaraguan crafts and art.
How can you help?
Remember to use Nica Shop for your online shopping whenever possible. Add this page to your favorites right now. Tell your friends and neighbors about it. Send emails to a few people to let them know about the site. If you have a web site, add a link to Nica Shop.

Revenues.
This is what we have raised so far. We are just starting to work hard to increase these amounts by multiples, so we need your help! (Note: Referral fees are disbursed by Amazon to NicaShop approximately 30 days after the end of each quarter.)
